1Introduction & App Purpose

NetAudit: WiFi & Port Scanner ("NetAudit," "the App," "we," "our") is a network diagnostic utility for Android. It helps you understand the devices connected to your own local Wi-Fi network — discovering active hosts on your subnet, checking which common diagnostic ports are open on them, and generating a plain-language, non-alarmist summary you can review or export as a PDF report.

NetAudit is built as a personal network-awareness tool, not a surveillance or hacking tool. It only ever scans the local subnet your device is currently connected to (your own home or office Wi-Fi/Ethernet network) — it does not scan, probe, or interact with any device or network outside that local subnet, and it does not access the public internet on your behalf beyond what is described in this policy.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses on your device, why, and — most importantly — what happens to it afterward. The short version: nothing leaves your device. Read on for the details.

2Permissions Explained

NetAudit requests the following Android permissions. Each one exists solely to let the App perform its on-device scanning function — none of them are used to identify you personally, track your location, or send information off your device.

Permission Why it's needed
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION Required strictly because Android 10+ ties access to your connected Wi-Fi network's real name (SSID) to this permission at the OS level. NetAudit uses it only to read the SSID so it can label your scan results with a human-readable network name (e.g. "HomeNet_5G") instead of a generic placeholder. The App does not read, log, store, or transmit your device's GPS coordinates or any other geographic location data — this permission is never used for location purposes, only for the Wi-Fi name it happens to be gated behind on this Android version.
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES (flagged neverForLocation) On Android 13+, this is the privacy-preserving, location-free way to read the same Wi-Fi network name described above. It is explicitly declared with the neverForLocation flag, telling the OS this permission will not be used to derive your location. Both this and ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION are requested together on Android 13+ only because some device manufacturers' Android builds have been observed to still require the older permission for SSID access even when this newer one is granted — a manufacturer-level inconsistency, not a choice to collect more than necessary.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE Lets the App read basic Wi-Fi connection state (e.g. whether Wi-Fi is currently connected) needed to know a scan is possible.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Lets the App read your active network's local link properties (your device's local IP address and subnet range) so it knows which address range to scan. This is standard IP-networking information, not personal data.
CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE Allows the App to send and receive local network discovery broadcasts (mDNS/SSDP), which some smart-home and IoT devices use to announce themselves on the local network. This does not enable any capability beyond discovering devices already on your own local network.
INTERNET On Android, opening even a local, same-network TCP/UDP socket requires the INTERNET permission at the OS level — it is not specific to reaching the public internet. NetAudit uses this permission exclusively to open local sockets for probing devices on your own subnet (see §3). The App does not use this permission to send your data, scan results, or any other information to any remote server. The manifest explicitly declares usesCleartextTraffic="false", and the App makes no outbound calls to any external analytics, advertising, or backend service.

3Data Collection & Processing

No personal data is collected, stored on any server, sold, or transmitted to us or to any third party. NetAudit has no backend, no analytics pipeline, and no account system of any kind.

Everything the App does happens locally, on your device:

NetAudit does not require you to create an account, does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number, does not access your contacts, photos, or files, and does not use cookies or any similar tracking technology (this being a native Android app, not a website).

4Third-Party Services & Links

NetAudit does not integrate any third-party analytics or advertising SDK — there is no Firebase Analytics, no Facebook SDK, no ad network, and no other telemetry or tracking library bundled with the App.

The one third-party service the App does integrate is Google Play Billing, used solely to process the optional one-time Pro upgrade purchase described in §3. Use of Google Play Billing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy applies only to NetAudit itself. If a future version of the App links out to an external website (for example, a support page), that external site's own privacy policy — not this one — governs your use of it.

5Children's Privacy

NetAudit is a general-audience network diagnostic utility and is not directed at children. Because the App collects no personal data whatsoever from any user, regardless of age, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (as addressed by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, COPPA) or from children under the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in §7 — though given the App's no-data-collection design, there should be no such information for us to hold or delete in the first place.

6Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect a new App feature or a change in applicable law. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date below. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after a change is posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Material changes that would affect how the App handles data — should any ever occur — will also be noted in the app store release notes for the relevant App update.
